It is a very special moment in time when one suddenly realises that one?s lifework and the image one has of himself/herself has far more meaning than one believed in the course of one?s career. When ? looking back ? everything not only seems to make sense, but actually makes it clear that every step one took has led to the creation of a new Big Picture.

The winner of this year?s Lifetime Award has pursued a career in lighting design that is not yet over, but appears to have come to a point when receiving such recognition presents one?s entire lifework in a new light. A person?s lifework is special ? for the person himself as well as for the entire community.

The winner or winners, is or are, a unit that would only be half as valuable if they worked as individuals. That said, the work achieved would still be far more significant than the lighting design developed or realised by many others. The fact is that as a unit they definitely incorporate double the power in one design practice.

Presenting a Recognition Award to lighting designers in this day and age, and in so doing providing an indication of the future of the entire industry, was a key aspect when selecting this year?s winner ? or winners. They built up a successful reputation in the past, went through a period of change and can now be regarded as an outstanding example of how one can develop a new standing and renown in the lighting community and underscore the true value of their passion and commitment to purposefully designed lighting.

The person, or persons, I am talking about are continually open for new input and to expanding their know-how. Which is a basic prerequisite for further development.

I would also like to underline the fact that they have spent their lives fighting for lighting design as a profession and are therefore a great source of hope and inspiration when it comes to the future of the profession and the masterminds who support them.

I like to refer to the two people I am talking about under a special name. I call them FraSer ? a mix of Francesco and Serena. In the market they are known as Consuline.

Es ist ein besonderer Moment, wenn man plötzlich erkennt, dass das Lebenswerk und das Selbstverständnis einer Person oder Personen mehr Bedeutung hat, als man im Laufe der Karriere glaubte. Wenn im Nachhinein alles nicht nur Sinn zu machen scheint, sondern wie ein Puzzlestück unerwartet ein neues, größeres Bild ergibt.

The winner of this year?s Life time award hat eine Lichtdesignkarriere erlebt, die zwar noch nicht beendet ist, die aber an einem Punkt gekommen scheint, an dem eben ein solches Ereignis das bisherige Lebenswerk in einer neuen Bedeutung erscheinen lässt. Dieses nicht, weil es nicht stimmen würde, sondern weil es so dermaßen abgegriffen und flach ist. Und genau das ist ihr Lebenswerk nicht. Es ist besonders, für sich selbst und die gesamte Branche. Der oder die Gewinner ist oder sind eine Einheit, die alleine nur halb so wertvoll ist. Das ist zwar immer noch bedeutsamer als das Lichtdesign viele andere, aber sie als Einheit sind eben die doppelte Power in einem Büro. In der heutigen Zeit jemanden auszuzeichnen und gleichzeitig einen Hinweis auf die Zukunft der gesamten Branche zu geben, war der ausschlaggebende Aspekt für die Wahl des oder der diesjährigen Gewinner. Sie waren in der Vergangenheit erfolgreich, hatten eine Phase des Wandels und sind nun einer der grandiosen Beispiele für Anpassung in der Branche, die man durchleben muss und dann eine erfolgreiche Wiedergeburt zu erleben. Die oder die Person/en sind jederzeit offen oder gar gierig auf Neues Wissen. Eine Grundvorsaussetzung für Weiterentwicklung.

Nicht zuletzt haben er / sie unaufhörlich für den Beruf des Lichtdesigners gekämpft und sind damit eine Hoffnung ein Muster für die Zukunft des Berufes und Masterminds, die Ihnen zur Seite stehen. Ich nenne diese zwei Personen gerne in einem Atemzug oder gar Begriff. I call them FraSer ? a mix of Francesco and Serena.
